My Story

Please contact Kady Hammer ([email protected]) for more information about this pet.Sweet girl seeking fresh start and love! AMBER NEEDS A FOSTER OR A FOREVER HOME!!!!
Name: Amber Best Guess for Breed: German Shepherd/Shepherd mix
Best Guess for Age: 2 years SEX: Female
Approximate Weight: 72 lbs
Gets Along With: Other dogs! We haven’t seen her with cats or kids but he can be tested.
Currently Living at: South Carolina shelter
Special adoption considerations: Amber is heartworm positive, but this Lucky Dog got extra lucky! This pup is part of a groundbreaking study we are conducting at our South Carolina Rescue Campus that has the potential to change the way shelters across the United States treat heartworm positive dogs. All dogs in the study are placed at random in either the 2 shot or 3 shot protocol with strictly monitored protocols in place. Four weeks following their final injection, the pups are eligible to transport to the DC area for placement in foster or adoptive care. After treatment concludes, we work with adopters to arrange a free follow up heartworm test after 6 months, followed by a second test at 9 months. We are happy to discuss this treatment and which phase of the study this Lucky Dog is in right now! Just email the adoption coordinator – the address is at lower left!
Amber is Looking For: Her forever home! This sweet girl needs a new home through no fault of her own. She’s eager to once again have her own humans – German shepherds are known for being quite attached to their people! Long sniffy walks and world exploration with them is on her wish list, as are a cushy dog bed and quality kibble. But you know what’s right at the top of the list? Being safe and loved and under her own roof for all his days. Shelter staff say she’s good with other dogs. She’s in her prime as an adult, well out of the puppy yips, and is more than ready to ease into her new humans’ home and hearts. In exchange, they get the immense amount of love and loyalty she is storing up for her new family. What do you say? Is that going to be you?
