They called me claiming that my son had requested their free ACT preparation CDs. I later found out that he did not request the CDs, but that they direct market to students who sign up for the ACT or SAT test. Why that list is made public, I have no idea! They told us that as long as they were returned in 30 days, there would be no charge. There was no mention of recurring monthly charges on my credit card or of any kind of subscription service. I discovered the extra charges, I called for a refund. They claimed that the charges were for access to their web site that had additional study resources. Yet I was never offered this service over the phone, had no idea that they had a web site and had no login credentials. They deducted $69.95 per month for 3 months, and refunded only 69.95. When I called back to reverse the other charges, they hung up on me. My total loss on this scam is 356.22. Although they assured me that there was a reminder call before the 30 days expired, of course there was none. I had set for myself a Google Calendar reminder before the end of the month, which unfortunately did not pop up. Thank you Google. I checked my dates on day 31, and missed the cutoff. I called them and they essentially said, "too bad for you." The quality of the CDs was terrible. In the math section it would instruct the student to look at a diagram and answer the questions, but the diagram was blank. In the English section it would instruct the student to read the essay and answer the questions, but the questions were for a different essay. Many of the words and characters did not display correctly and the whole thing was nothing but a source of frustration for my son.
