Type of a scam Charity

I think I may have encountered a fake charity or a charity that uses some unethical practices. I received a phone call, at work, about a month ago from United Breast Cancer Foundation. The caller gave me very little information and pressured me into making a $20 donation. Then tried to get me to give them my credit card number or debit card. I refused to do both and requested they send me something in the mail.

A few weeks ago I got a reminder in the mail. I didn’t have the time to mail in the check and then was on the road. Today, I got another call from “Alice,” demanding I pay this $20 today using my credit care or debit card. As I was trying to explain to her, I would send a check, she said there are so many charities out there I probably sent it to the wrong one. Then a client knock on my door, and I told her I was at work and had to go. She instead starting demanding I give her the credit card or debit number instead of letting me off the phone. I told her I was at work, had a client there and that I needed to do my job and hung up.

The person who knocked on my office door, heard the last part of the conversation and asked if that was a bill collector. That is how pushing this woman was. I don’t know any charity that is that pushy. I think did a search of the address and charity and found out that there has been scams related to this charity.

Basically I am glad I didn’t get a chance to send the check as I think this is a scam. The phone number listed is 877-883-7523 and the address is 24875 Novi Road #967, Novi, MI 48376-0967. If it is a real charity I have to wonder about their business practices.

Caller soliciting for a bogus breast cancer charity, asking for $25 donation, and being snotty with me when I refused.

I just received what I believe may be a new version of the "answer yes" robocall scam. When I answered the phone, a female voice asked, "Susan?" I answered "yes." After a moment, the caller again asked, "Susan?" Again, I said "yes." A laugh on the caller’s end, who then said, "Oh, I was just trying to get my grandson’s hand out of the candy dish. My name is Alice and I’m calling with the United Breast Cancer Foundation," at which point I was horrified that I’d answered "yes" twice and immediately hung up the phone. I’m not positive that’s the name of the charity she used, but it’s pretty darn close. Of course, I cannot verify for certain this was a robocall, but I truly think it was.

Despite recent reports in the news about scammers attempting to get people to say "yes" on the phone to splice this into a fake acceptance of service, this charity caller did just that:

her: "is this (my first name)?"

me: "yes".

Then the caller seemed to be a robot or a recording, saying things that didn’t make sense and repeating herself without logic. She wanted to send me a pledge card, and kept saying things in a non-logical fashion, as if she was trying to trick me into agreeing.

Received call on my landline phone about 8:35 PM PDT on May 19, 2017. Two women who talked very fast (no accent) wanted me to contribute $30 (then$50). I said $10 & mail me an invoice. I had to speak my name which was played back to me; then, a synthesized voice saying my address was played to me. I agreed that it was correct.

I’m very suspicious about the method of soliciting.

They asked for a $30 – $50 donation. A second woman got on the line to "confirm" my donation (which I hadn’t agreed to). Then I foolishly said "yes" when they said would it be OK to send donation card for smaller amount to my house. After that, they abruptly hung up. Now I’m concerned because they might have a recording of my voice saying "yes".
