Type of a scam Travel/Vacations

A professional sounding gentleman named Zaid Parks (although I thought he said David) called asking me by my first and last name. He went on to say that the Mirage was celebrating it’s birthday and by doing so was giving out 200 VIP package tickets in every state. Preceded to tell me that for $379 I would get a VIP package that would include 4 days/3 nights at one of many hotels, steak dinner at a Pampas Brazilian Grille, 2 tickets to 6 shows, $1000 in spending credit (no gambling or alcohol) and he’d meet us at the hotel of our choice with 2 bottles of wine or champagne. He listed a dozen hotels, most on the Strip. Basically everything except the flight was included. There were no blackout periods except New Years and I would have up to 2 years to use the package. Zaid wanted me to talk to his associate in the finance department to verify that he was giving the appropriate details and was not misleading me. He even recited my address (old address, I moved a year ago) and asked if that was still my address on file.

When I explained that I would like something emailed to me so I can review it and confirm the validity of his company he had no problems with that. He asked for my email address and said he’d send me an email. He then asked when he could call back to see if I wanted to sign up.

The email he sent me was from a gmail account not a business account. The website he linked was done in WordPress and was poorly created. Some of the details on the page did not match the details he gave me. There was no corporate information or links to the corporate company. The hotels they did list didn’t seem to have the trademark links. As a matter of fact at the bottom of the page the copyright and trademark details says, "All company, product and services names used in this website are for identification purposes only. Use of these names, logos and brands does not imply endorsement." The general wording and descriptions on the website do not seem professional, especially from a company who is giving out 200 of these VIP packages per state. A google search of the number did trace back to the website link he emailed me. It did not, nor did a google search of The Vegas Package, trace back to a more official corporate website.

When the gentleman called me back it was from the same phone number. I would have expected it to be different as you see from companies with multiple employees. When I explained to the gentleman that I could not buy a package and it was because I could not verify the validity of his company. He tried to tell me that he sent me an email from his private email and that the link was to just give details on the package. He also tried to convince me to check the ScamPulse.com site (which thevegaspackage.com, The Vegas Package, Vegas Package and thevegaspackage were not to be found). I told him I would have expected more from a professional company and would have expected something more than just a WordPress site. He said thank you and that he would offer the deal to someone else.
