Type of a scam Employment

I received a "remote job offer." I interviewed via "Google Hangouts" and was offered a position. A "check" in the amount $4670 was overnighted with instructions to deposit into my bank account via ATM and send a snapshot of the deposit. I was concerned because I asked for an offer letter, training materials, W-2s, etc. Mr. Smith was insistent that I immediately deposit the check, and meet him online the following morning to confirm I had completed the task. I told him I would not deposit until I checked with the bank it was drawn on to verify the authenticity of the check and that the funds were available. I further asked that he send me a Fedex shipping/return label because I no longer wanted the position.
