Type of a scam Tech Support

well, I was on the computer when a pop up came on the screen and said my computer is infected with a virus. They had a number toll free called Microsoft tech support, so I called them and that’s when the person said they are a tech employee. They said my computer has a lot of viruses on it and unfortunately I gave them access to my computer to scan it. Then they asked for my credit card information and I gave it to them but today I called my bank to cancel my credit card and they have notified the fraud department.
