Type of a scam Tech Support

Was working on a friends laptop when I noticed two strange bat files on the desktop and a support number in the taskbar. I was curious how he got them on the laptop. Turns out he spent $400 for a stranger to remotely connect to his laptop and do who knows what on it and add two useless bat files that only cleared a log. The guy also left a txt file with info inside that reads, "Whenever anybody calls you regarding computer always ask the passcode until that guy verifies right passcode never entertain that call.If that guy tells the right passcode then talk to him/her or hangup the call and call us on our tollfree number which is 1-800-986-6452." Which sounds very odd. Don’t get scammed out of $400 for nothing.
