Type of a scam Debt Collections

I was called by this man who said I owed money on an outstanding bill for a bill that was settled back in 2016 and paid for, however at the time I had no paperwork showing that and I couldn’t remember if I paid it or not, I did say to him I already paid it, he swore up and down I didn’t and that his business was legitimate. I ended up setting payments up with him for $400 for the next 3 months thinking I still owed the money. the day after it was paid off another company called trying to collect on the same account. I tried calling 2 out of the 3 numbers to speak with this company to get a receipt from them because they said they were sending paperwork and did not. 2 out of the 3 numbers were disconnected and I left a message on the other number with no phone call back, I have since tried several times to get in touch with them with no luck. a police report was filed as well as a complaint with my bank for fraud. still no resolution to this day, this guy was a pure fraud and this will never happen again, no more giving info out over the phone
