Type of a scam Utility

I received a call from a person who claimed he was a technician, who gave me my address and said was on his way and was going to turn off my electricity in one hour due to an unpaid bill. I asked for my account number. He claimed he was only the technician and giving me a heads up and advised me to call the company at 1877 340 9337 ext 2. to take care of this so they could cancel his service call if this was a mistake or we paid the bill. I called the 1 877 number and it seemed legit until I pressed ext 2 and then the connection seemed to be very shotty and the representative did not speak English with a very good accent. He asked for my account number, when I said I didn’t have it, he asked for my address, I said he can look up my account number with my phone number— he quickly hung up.

This seemed very legitimate and I fear other people will fall for this and try pay their bill over the phone to this fake company.

I called So California Edison and this is not their number and they said it was a scam.
