Type of a scam Fake Check/Money Order

I was contacted by a person via linkd in to join a market research initiative. So i make contact with the company, give them my home address and next thing you know, i receive a check in the mail for $2,950.00 to shop at apple. It looked very suspicious in terms of the amount, and the fact the check came from a title company in nevada. so i call the title company for confirmation of the funds because at this point, im suspicious. they cannot confirm the check which leads me to here. be careful folks!
