Type of a scam Online Purchase

I purchased and paid for a book from this company and then they billed me for a monthly subscription for $79.99 which I did not approve. After looking at my April credit card bill, I realized they were charging me that since August 2016. I called the company and they would only credit for the last 3 months. I told them that I was not notified of these monthly charges and that it was wrong and deceptive. It is obvious to me that they knew that when they credited back 3 months but refused to credit back for all the months charges.
