Type of a scam Debt Collections

I recieved a call from number 512-717-9024 stating that they have made several attempts to reach me and if I don’t pay today they will serve me with papers for a law suite. I did not recognize the company name he stated that I owed. He said that is normal because they use advertisers to set up my loan. He did confirm the last 4 of my social. I also couldn’t line up the date this so called loan was dispersed and the amount of the loan. I am a little late on a payday loan but it was not for the amount provided or the disbursement date, but since I know I am late on a loan I am questioning if this is somehow legit?
