Type of a scam Employment

on 5/1/17 received email from Logan Brooks (HR Manager) advising me of a customer service assignment in my area involving visiting Walmart, RiteAid, Walgreens, etc paying $500 per assignment (Cashiers check). Replied that I would be interested in receiving additional information. On 5/2/17 Michael Richardson (Head of Recruitment) advised me that I would be receiving a package via UPS and they needed my address. I supplied the address, but once again did not commit to the job. On 5/5/ a priority mail envelope arrived from SMILE SHIP LLC (Green Bay Wisconsin) with a cashier’s check for $2785.00 enclosed. Nothing else. I called the credit union (Kern Federal Credit Union in Bakersfield, CA) and spoke to the branch manager about the cashier’s check I received. He warned me about cashing it as they have been the victim of scams. On 5/6/17 Michael Richardson emailed me stating that I would be given my first assignment after I confirmed that I received the cashier’s check and let them know when I had deposited it. I ignored the email. On 05/08/17, I received another email telling me that the cashier’s check was delivered to me and I should deposit it at my bank immediately and confirm to them that it had been done. On this same day I received a text message telling me they received a delivery notification from USPS that the package had been delivered. I was to confirm right away that I was in possession of the check. I will continue to ignore and block any further communications from them.
