Type of a scam Employment

This was sent to us from a applicant who used our website. "I searched through Lane Job Connection and came across a posting for an "Office Administrative Assistant". I accessed the contact information and ended up applying for (via a google form) and being "hired" for this position. I could not find the company, Pacific Union International, online. The email address was @pacifficunion.com, and the domain doesn’t have a pngage. In addition, the employer text messaged me and asked me to purchase check paper and amazon gift cards from Office Depot, even though we hadn’t met in person yet, I hadn’t signed any contracts, etc. He claimed that he was sending an e-check and would load funds onto it when they became available, but in the mean time I would need to purchase them myself.

They have an in town address and local phone number listed, but the communications did not come from that number, nor did the given address correspond to their "company" name.

On an online search, identical job listings with the same contact name/email can be found in pdfs in different states."
