Type of a scam Employment

A person named Michael Smith reached out to me on LinkedIn. He asked if I would be open to part time work – 5 hours a week at $400. Living in NYC, that is a normal rate for an executive assistant. He offered me the job immediately then emailed me with a non company email saying he was sending me a check for $2950 for a printer, paper, administrative program and first weeks payment. I thought this was odd. No w9 was requested. Then I got a check (see attached) from a company that does not have an office in Ohio. I also got a text on my phone from 307-213-8140, Michael, asking me to deposit it via my cell phone. Also strange. He refused to answer any questions about the actual work I would be doing, the hour or any other details. I researched scams on checks for employees and found a woman who had a similar experience. Apparently I found out it was a scam before money was taken or he even was able to ask for money from me.
