Type of a scam Charity

I received a call saying they were calling on behalf of some ordinance for policemen saying that it was to protect officers from retaliation by criminals. It sounded like they were reading off a script and wouldn’t answer my questions when I asked where they were calling from. They asked me if I wanted to donate 35, 55, or 105 dollars before connecting me to another individual. I was starting to give them my credit card information when I decided I didn’t feel comfortable doing so and gave them fake information before asking them to mail me out paperwork.

When I called the police district office, they said that they have no such charity on record and seemed concerned that they wanted my payment information.
