Type of a scam Fake Check/Money Order

I received an email from a friend stating that they were hiring mystery shoppers; she provided all the contact information. I reached out to them not knowing that it was a possible scam. Craig Capiello reached out to me via email and told me that I was approved and that I should be receiving a cashier’s check and the assignment in the mail. I received it in the mail looked at it really closely and realized that this might be a scam because the check was like $2,930 and I was given instructions on buying gift cards. I was told to text 505.916.1299 when I deposited the check, and text when funds will be available. I was to set aside $300 of that amount for myself and purchase a certain amount of Walmart and Ebay gift cards, scrape off gray layer on the back and take pictures of them and then hold on to them for a later assignment. What alerted me is the assignment was just on a plain paper , no letterhead. The printer they printed it on must have ran out of ink because some of the print was not legible.
