Type of a scam Employment

I was promised employment with this company and, at first, the promise looked legitimate. I was sent a bunch of training materials, which consisted of some light reading and a few questions to answer at the end. I was encouraged by the fact that I had taken and passed all the tests with flying colors.. Then I was told that I had to buy five phones and send them to a hub in Hong Kong. That kind of raised a red flag and when I attempted to contact the business, I was either directed to a voicemail or given some sort of run around. What started out as something promising has now left me feeling stupid and totally lacking confidence.
