Type of a scam Fake Check/Money Order

This company reached out to me via linkedin, and I signed up since it came from a trusted connection (turned out he was hacked). After a week I received a check in the mail for $2,850.00 to complete a "shopping survey". In this I would buy $2,350.00 worth of Apple gift cards and send the images of the card numbers over to the company. I decided against this as I could not find A) a company website, B) any information at all regarding "*** *** *** and C) no response via email when I inquired more about the company. Although I did not go all the way thru with this, I know it is a scam as no other true mystery shopping organizations run like this. Another thing I found to be strange is the check came from a company named *** *** which is an automotive company in Miami, FL. Not sure if they are in on the scam or if they took some random company’s information to make their check look more "legit". Beware of scams!
