I was initially contacted by [email protected] and received this email:

Hello,

The human resources department of MERCK & CO went through your resume on www.*** which meets the requirements for the customer service representative and administrative assistant positions we are looking to fill and we would specially like to invite you for an interview. The interview schedules are as follows;

Interview time schedule: 8am to 12pm, 12:30pm to 3pm and 3:30pm- 6pm daily.

Pay rate: $26.75

Time duration: Forty (40) minutes

Position: Call center/Customer service representative and administrative assistant

The briefing and interview would be conducted online via hangout. You’re required to add the hiring manager, Evan Kane, by searching for his email [email protected] on hangout. If you are not on hangout you can register on https://hangouts.google.com, search for his email and send him this referral code, MCK/MICH for the briefing and online interview scheduling. Your timely response matters a lot as the available slots are limited and hiring begins immediately. We look forward to hearing from you soon.

I then followed up and he conducted an interview via Google Hangouts and then received this email notifying me that I have been hired:

Hello ***,

It is with great delight that we, Merck & Co, offer you the position of a customer service representative should you choose to accept the offer. If you haven’t been briefed yet, you will be briefed by the hiring manager about how to get started with training as soon as possible. He has also been assigned to you as your supervisor. Kindly find attached to this email the employment offer letter which you are required to review, fill and send back. Upon receipt of your signed offer letter you will be sent your other employment documents. Welcome to Merck & Co.

I signed the initial form which was then followed up with another email asking me for more information:

Hi ***,

Attached to this email is the tax document and employee verification form which you are required to fill and return. You will receive your direct deposit form after these have been filled and sent back. I look forward to hearing from you soon so we can proceed to the next stage which is your training. Ensure you co-operate with your supervisor/hiring manager so he can guide you properly on how to go about your training. Please feel free to contact me if you need any assistance. Have a great day.

Type of a scam Employment

I received a text message from "Michael" claiming to be a recruiter for a pharmaceutical company and that I fit the requirements for their payroll specialist position and would I be interested in learning more. I said yes and gave them my email address to contact me. After about a week I noticed I had a message on my google hangouts from a man named "Evan Kane" that claimed to be the hiring specialist with Merck and asked if I wanted to setup an online interview, I agreed. The following day 1/24/19 we conducted our online interview via google hangouts which I thought was strange but had faith that it was legit. After the interview was over he told me to stay around my computer because the hiring process takes about an hour which again was strange but still having faith this was a legit job offer. After an hour he came back and told me I was hired and went into the details of how they will send me a check to purchase equipment, etc. That is when I knew something wasn’t right. I also received emails from the "Human Resources Director" named Steven Mizell with the email address [email protected] (The real Merck & Co uses .com for their emails). Steven and Evan do work for the real company but if someone contacts you in this manor please do not fall for it.
