Type of a scam Phishing

A young man driving a White Kia Seoul parked on a side street by our house at 8:10pm, came up the driveway, took a picture of our house so I went outside to ask if I could help him. (My dogs were going crazy). He was wearing a lanyard that said JMA. Asked to verify my name and my birth date. I told him "no way would I give any information." He couldn’t look me in the eye, but asked if he could leave a document. I took the document and went inside where I found a plain white enveloped with our names handwritten and the word "confidential" (writing looked like a 2nd grader). Document was from our loan company, but didn’t have their logo and their name was typed out when it’s usually just their initials. Document didn’t look official at all, but said it was from the Loan Mitigation department and wanted all of our personal information for other ways to pay our mortgage. We are 100% up to date! I contacted loan company and they didn’t send any info to us and then I contacted the police to file a report for a scam from JMA. I contacted JMA; they wouldn’t give me any info except for the phone number for our loan company. Said a manager would call me back. Please be aware of someone coming to your door with documents that are fake and don’t give any personal info to a stranger!
