Type of a scam Rental

I was looking up apartments for rent, came across an ad that sounded great; so I emailed asking how much rent was. His reply was that "he was so thankful to hear from me and this was perfect, as he was in the Philippines visiting his mother" – I knew from that second it was a scam, and when I copied and pasted this part, several other exact ads, just under different emails came up… He said that we could stay in the house as long as we wanted, that the money would have to be transferred to the Philippines and that he needed the rent for first month, the 800 and then a 400 $ deposit as well and then "the house was mine"
