Type of a scam Credit Repair/Debt Relief

I was contacted by an individual claiming to be an officer to the court and was trying to verify my identity in order to serve papers to appear in court. I had no idea what this was about. The individual provided me with a docket number and the phone number to J B Lewis Associates. Upon calling the firm I was notified that I was being sued over an account debt that was from 2006. The amount was for $1942.50. The firm stated that they bought the collection account for $400 and some dollars and the balance was interest that they could write off. The firm stated I could attempt a counter offer and if it was accepted I could provide a credit card number and a valid email for the receipt. After my counter offer was not accepted (I offered $0) they told me good luck!

I did some research of my own and have filed a complaint with the Ohio Attorney General office for this potential scam. A debt of over 6yrs old is past the Statue of Limitations for collections in Ohio.
