Type of a scam Employment

I have been online searching for employment and someone reached out to me by text this morning stating "I am Mr. Lawson Johnson from the company (Jassen Pharmaceutical INC). Your resume has been reviewed by the company and you have been selected for an online interview." Then it listed several available jobs and asked that I choose the one that I am applying for. It asked me to download Google Hangouts because I would be doing my online interview there. After I added Mr. Johnson on Google Hangouts, he started asking me basic interview questions. He advised that I would be making $24 per hour and $12.35 during training. He also told me about 401k benefits, medical insurance, and other perks. After he said that I got the job, he told me that he would be sending me a check in the mail for me to purchase software for me to use, and that they would be sending me a company laptop as well. At this point, I knew that it was a scam, because why wouldn’t your company laptop not already have the software needed. He wanted me to deposit the check into my account and then they would let me know what to do from there. I am supposed to contact them by morning for further instructions. Please be careful, because I have only applied for jobs using Indeed. I don’t think they are aware of the scam, but just be mindful.
