Type of a scam Fake Invoice/Supplier Bill

Somehow the scammer got the name of one fo my emailcontacts. I receive an email that appeared to be from her. She and I write checks to pay invoices for our charity. The scammer acted as if he was she and that she was asking me to send a check from our charity to a certain vendor (come to find out it was to be written to him personally and not a vendor). I believed it since the invoice had her name on it, not his name. I was very close to sending the check and then I called her. She had no idea what I was talking about or how he got her name.
