Pop up received on computer stating there was a virus and to call the phone number listed for tech support.

Phone number was called and the "tech support" spent 30-40 minutes on the computer – asked that I send them a photo of a check (via webcam on computer) for $450 to fix the computer. After realizing this was a scam, hung up and contacted local authorities. Immediately froze bank account so no actual money was lost and the check that was sent cannot be cashed. However computer is still ruined and probably has malware on it.
