Type of a scam Debt Collections

Called numerous times. When I answered they gave me another number to call and a complaint number. I called they said they were trying to collect a debt and trying to resolve before a complaint against me was made. They knew my address, my whole social security number, and when debt originated. Which was 20 years ago. Wanted payment over phone. Also wanted to know if I had a smart phone or an email. I said no. Said they could post date a withdrawal on credit card. When I told them I would call back on a later date the phone went dead.
