Type of a scam Government Grant

I received a message from a trusted friend on Messinger. It had her picture and we "’conversed." She told me about an incredible grant she found she was eligible for and was thrilled to have $150,000 delivered by FedX to her home. It was the new Global Gift Grant. She told me to text the number 208-214-3534 to see if I was also eligible. I did, the agent looked on the list, and I was eligible. I was only to give my full name and address and choose check or cash for a large amount. Then the request was to go to a nearby store, buy a $500 ITunes gift card to activate the grant. The agent was very convincing

At this point I called my friend and she knew NOTHING about it. I was not conversing with her at all! Then another friend called her and warned her that this was a scam. VERY subtle and complicated. Scary. How did they get her name, face, and connect her with me?
