Type of a scam Online Purchase

I was contacted, via the contact form on my company website, by someone named "John Cane", Procurement Manager for Flare Architects. "He" made an "URGENT" request for 13 laptops of a very specific make/model. He said he was referred to me by HP while trying to order direct. I don’t have an HP partner account. I have few dealings with HP. This sounded suspicious, so I checked out their website, checked their domain registration, called their number, and searched Google, LinkedIn, the state of Georgia’s business database, and the ScamPulse.com. The website is one page, with no working external links (such as social media). It’s hosted on a private server in Idaho (no company name listed, just a name). Company page states they’ve worked on projects for various major companies, but I can’t find any sign of them anywhere. They don’t exist in the state of Georgia, the BBB has never heard of them, they’re not registered on LinkedIn, and the request is very similar to ones I get via text message (known scams that hit small computer-oriented businesses). Their answering service is simply a computer-generated voice giving the most generic statements about the company before mentioning entering an extension. I did not respond to the request, so I haven’t lost any money, save for the otherwise-billable time I’ve spent looking them up and making this report.
