Type of a scam Fake Invoice/Supplier Bill

I recently started an LLC business in Florida and received an invoice from FL Certificate Services stating I had one more step regarding certification. I went through Legalzoom to startup my business and completed all required forms/registrations through this service. In researching this invoice for $67.25 I came across other complaints that this is not a legitimate organization-despite the official looking form and mailing.

Letter artfully emulates an official letter and format to scam $67.25 to attain a "Florida Certificate of Status"

The address is a UPS store. Obvious scam that has apparently been going on for years. Protect yourselves people, you only need to look up the address to figure this out.

The larger question is, since these letters are mailed and someone has to physically go to the UPS store to pick up these scammed checks, and then deposit them to a bank account, why is it that our BBB, Florida, and federal law enforcement activities have not intervened (mail fraud) to protect the residents and businesses of Florida?

I received a letter from FL Certificate Services. They obviously got my name and address and other information for my newly formed LLC and they send you a letter that looks official. If I had not known that I do not need a Certificate of Status, I would have been led to believe that I needed to send these people $67.25. They have a very fine print line that says "This is not a government agency", that most people may not even notice.

It’s terrible, I wonder how many people have been scammed by these people and sent them money they could not afford to? I wish someone would issue them a huge fine and/or jail time to teach them and others a lesson.

Recently filed an application for an LLC and paid all fees on sunbiz.org.

I received this letter today stating that it was a 2019 Certificate of Status Request Form for $67.25 and to follow the instructions exactly.

I’ve already paid these fees & have the receipts.

This is obviously a scam to elicit the same fees attached to corporate filing.

I have received an invoice from this company asking for $67.25 for a Certificate of Status as a new LLC business in Florida. The invoice said it would be needed as evidence of my LLC existence. I have all of the paperwork from SunBiz for my new business. When I checked on line to see if this was legit, I saw all of the complaints filed against this company in the past. I so glad I checked it out. Please be careful as there is a lot of this going on. Investigate everything.

Same as everyone else. I got this scam letter 2 days after getting confirmation that my business was listed on Sunbiz. The fact that this company is still open is really surprising. Shame on them for trying to scam new business owners who are literally just starting and new to all of this. This is not $5 or $10 they are after but $67.25! And even though their letter says (very small and purposely out of the way) that they are not a government agency, they are really trying to mimic the look of one. They even use the number format fro TAX documents (see photo) on the outside of their envelopes and I have not idea how thats legal. Do not send them money.

I just formed an LLC with the State of Florida, and within a few days, I recieved an invoice from this particular company (FL Certificate Services), advising that one last step was needed to attain the Certificate of Status for a fee of $67.25. Upon calling thier business # I recieved a recording that the call was being monitored and was transferred to an individual who did not acknowledge thier company name or business and was very unprofessional. After hanging up, I called the State (Divisions of Corporations) and advised of the invoice and they advised it was a scam and not to pay.

This scam is so prevelant there is a video on YouTube warning consumers.

All business names are public. You can order a legitimate certificate when you set up your business for less than $40. This scam letter came in the mail and looks official but along the dotted line where you cut the bottom of the letter it reads ‘This is not a government agency.’ They want $67.25 to give you a worthless piece of paper.

They send an official appearing notice by mail that looks like a required government document for the formation of a business in FL. They ask for money required for your “certificate of status”. It is very misleading, and clearly a scam.

I received a notice from FL Certificate Services located at 3122 Mahan Drive Ste 801-267 Tallahassee, FL 32308, which tries to represent itself as an official office of the State of Florida. Soliciting me to purchase a copy of my Florida Certificate of Status for the price of $61.25. They write in their form that "you have one step left in order to attain your elective Florida Certification of Status". Which would lead you to believe it is part of the registration process of a new Florida Corporation. It is not. This company does not represent the State of Florida in any way. They are trolling to catch unsuspecting new business owners in a scam designed to look very official. They are operating out of a UPS Store with a PO Box and the UPS Store employees are complicit in the scam and will not verify the ownership of the PO BOX.

If you are a newly registered business within the State of Florida and want to obtain a copy of your certificate of staus you can visit sunbiz.org division of corporations and fill out the simple form. Prices range from $8.25 – $30.00 depending on your type of corporation. No need to fall victim to this scammer.
