Type of a scam Employment

I received an email stating that they saw my resume published and had job openings and to contact the hiring manager and email [email protected] immediately for an interview on hangouts. I never had an interview like that before but know we are in a different age so i did it. And it seemed like a legit interview. After about 30 mins he stated that had the job of a receptionist. And he told me what my job duties would be but initially he said i would be monitoring logbook and giving out badges and then it waa doing invoice recording, mini statements on the accounting software. They would send me a check to buy my supplies and i needed to deposit the check and buy the software with their third party vendor but i was confused because if you sending me a laptop from the company why arent the software on there and how can i get the job without meeting someone. I was nervous. So i looked up the address of the recruiting team and called and it is a legit business but no ones answers which is odd. I looked back at the website and did see the cfo as pete d arrigo but why would he be contacting me via gmail. Then i talked to my girlfriend and she said it was a scam and told me that they did it to her but with a different company.
