Type of a scam Tech Support

I was having trouble getting into my e-mail when a box popped up and ask if I wanted tech support. Thinking this belonged to my e-mail carrier I clicked yes. A man called and said he would help me. He got into the computer screen and said that I had the worse virus on my computer, koobface. It took me several attempts to get him to even tell me what company he was with and he finally told me after he had finished with everything. After all was done he then told me I owed him 399.00 for a three year service. I told him I didn’t want that and he said "okay, we’ll make it 299.00 for a two year service." I told him that I didn’t even know that I was going to be charged and he was persistent with getting credit card information from me. I’m still not sure what he put on my computer. He installed something and I had to have help trying to remove it from my computer.
