Type of a scam Rental

"Carter Caldwell Affiliates" cold called one of my clients looking to purchase his real estate in Cabo. The man identified himself as Dean Lane. They said they wanted to use it for some timeshares and corporate event leasing. They offered him $179,500 to purchase the property (deemed to be a fair to above fair price by my client). They sent bank account documentation showing the funds available for transfer along with a purchase agreement to my client. Upon review, all looked good and my client signed it. Afterwards, "Carter Caldwell and Affiliates" said they would need $7500 to cover transfer costs and other fees for the funds in the account from Mexico. This is when my client grew suspicious and asked me to go take a look at the office building to see if I could locate a store front. When I arrived at 2323 N Mayfair Rd., I found there to be no suite 110 and no Carter Caldwell of any kind….and no Dean Lane. There is no record of a Dean Lane or Carter Caldwell Affiliates other than their website. I asked other office tenants in the building if they have heard of either of the above- they responded they had not. Also, their building directory showed no such location. I attempted to call Carter Caldwell to locate their office but the woman who answered claiming to be the receptionist hung up when I told her I was in the building looking for her office and would not take any more calls from the number. I called from a secondary number, she answered, I asked again, she hung up…..same issue.
