Type of a scam Employment

Was contacted by a MR Ruiz via text stating I had been selected by the BMD group for a job and I needed to connect with a Joyce Jackson via Skype to do an interview. I did this and became automatically suspicious but decided to play along. She told me I could only answer her questions. After the “interview” she said everyone was satisfied and I was hired. Then she began to tell me that a check would be mailed to me for me to purchase the equipment I needed for my at home office. I was sent a generic offer letter with the greetings “great employee”. The letter offered me 34.75 an hour, no job title. The check did arrive and I contacted the bank it was drew on because the address that it was mailed from was in New York but the name on the check was someone in VA. When I contacted the bank they stated the check belonged to an online prepaid bank card. I asked the “candidate financier” where could I return the check to because I was not interested and that I was reporting the incident, I have yet to receive an answer. I read about a similar scam where the individual lost the funds when she cashed the check and then had to transfer the funds to a different account because the check was fake. This check is for $4770
