A guy about 20 years old knocked on my door and claimed to be offering magazine subscriptions for charitable causes. He introduced himself as Jon L***. He seemed friendly and energetic with his pitch about getting the most points for a vacation, so I did write a check for the company he claimed to be working for. His forms and catalogues were laminated but dogeared, his ledger seemed well-used with stickers and decals on it, and a fair amount of cash was sticking out of the billfold. After wishing him well, I tried to look up the address of the company to no avail, and found that the website did not exist. I concluded that I had been scammed and cancelled the check. Will be monitoring my bank account accordingly.
