Type of a scam Debt Collections

On July 31, 2018, my parents received a voicemail on their home phone (which I don’t live), stating I needed to call them regarding a debt that needs to be settle, and a Sever would stop by to present me with court documents between the hours of 3pm & 5pm, that I must sign to accept my court date.

I called the number that was left on the answering machine. The person I spoke with informed me, I had an unsettled account their a bank.

– They knew the last 4 digits of my social

– They knew my Birthdate

– They knew my address

– They knew the account# I had while with the bank

I called ADP on August 2, 2018. I explained to them, the debt has been settled almost a decade ago. They told me my debt had not been settled and was $400.00; which was not true. In addition, the correct amount charged off by the bank was $103.xx (cant recall the exact change amount), which I confirmed with the bank, as it seemed to be a scam from the very beginning.

Concerned, I left work and went home to go through my files. I discovered I had settled my debt with a company (remains unnamed- unless needed) over 8yrs ago. It was also discovered, this (unnamed company) is permanently closed and the owner was charged with various forms of fraud.

The new (fake) debt collectors (ADR) mentioned this (unnamed) company, as the company they received my debt from and was collecting on their behalf, which has been shutdown since 2014. I asked the representative of ADR, when did they receive my information, I was told March 2018; again, impossible due to the original collectors being closed and under investigation since 2014.

During the numerous calls I made back and forth, I spoke to 4 different people, but only recall the names -which I am pretty sure are fakes- Tom Burnes and Amy hughs.

Another observation, when I call the phone #s provided blocked, (*67) from the phone I originally made the calls from and mentioned to them, the debt had been paid and you are falsely using information (somehow) received from an account that is fraudulent, I cannot get through. It’s as if they have some kind of blocker that still allows them to know it’s me calling (the phone just makes a beep sound, then hangs up). BUT, if I call from a different phone, still blocked (*67), the phone rings, but no one answers; I attempted this most of today(9:48am-2:22pm), August 3, 2018, before deciding to write this (assumed) scam report. To prove it wasn’t THAT particular phone giving me issues with dialing out private (blocked), I attempted to call other phone numbers with my number blocked- Success.
