Type of a scam Tech Support

Browser locked on a what appeared to be a microsoft page. A pop up box appeared with a voice over saying that my pc was compromised and provided a toll free number to call. I asked the "tech support agent" (fraudster) if he worked for Microsoft and if this was a scam and his response was well rehearsed. I stupidly let him connect to my pc but I was googling in parallel. Felt like it was a scam so I told them to immediately disconnect. They made a couple changes to my pc settings to make my life difficult.
