My Story

———My Story———-
Have you ever wished that you could have a different life? Because I have. I am around 6 months old and before coming to PPFT….my future was not bright. Since I was a  puppy I spent my time all alone in the yard. Sure, there were other  dogs around…okay quite a few other dogs around…but the area was small and we really were not well taken care of. Food and water were not regular things for us, and we hardly ever saw our owner. When we did, we were always so excited and hopeful that we would get some attention or care..sometimes we did…sometimes we didn’t. That was still our owner though and we loved our owner regardless. While our owner was not know to be very attentive, we started to wonder when our owner left us one day and just never came back. We waited for what seemed like forever, but our owner never came back for us. While we were never well cared for before, now we really had nothing. No water. No food. No nothing. Just us  dogs, a small yard, and whatever the weather threw our way. Thankfully, some people discovered our situation and started bringing us food, and water, and coming out to check on us. However, a more pressing question soon came up…where would we all go? We couldn’t stay there and the shelter was pretty much nonexistent in my city. So, it was decided that if we couldn’t find placement we would all have to be euthanized. It isn’t fair considering we did nothing wrong, but if there is nowhere for us to go and no one wants us…..it was just a terrible situation all around. Some volunteers started networking us like crazy trying to find someone who could help us, and PPFT was one of the rescues that answered their call.
Now, I am in a loving foster home and I couldn’t be happier. Guys, I actually get LOVE now. I know that a lot of people take it for granted, but the fact that I am actually welcomed on someone’s lap for cuddles and  pets…and given as many kisses as I give them…that is not something that I ever had before. Not once. You know something else I never had before? A name. But now I do. I have a name guys…and it is Sheriff!
———My Personality———-
My name (in case you missed it, plus I feel like I can’t say it enough) is Sheriff. I am a 6-month-old, 18lb male Border Collie/Husky mix. I probably have some other breeds swirling around in me too considering there were so many different  dogs and breeds on the property. But in cases like this, you at least can have fun. You can tell people I am a Borsky, a Blue-Eyed Hunk of a Pup(personally I prefer that one), or even say I am a big-eared, blue-eyed, certified  mutt. Okay okay…that wasn’t very creative but cut me some slack…I am still just a pup you know! Speaking of which, I look younger than my guessed age don’t I? Given how malnourished I was, we are thinking that I have not really been able to grow and fill out like I would have had I been in a loving home from the start. So, I am unsure if I am on the verge of a growth spurt or if I am going to be a “forever  puppy”….time will tell I guess. However, I do not think I will get bigger than maybe the 40-50lb range so that should be a plus for anyone looking for a  dog that is on the smaller side. Now, I am sure you may have noticed that something doesn’t seem quite right with one of my eyes. Well, you see, I have an eye condition called anterior synechia. This is a condition where parts of my eye, specifically the iris and the cornea, are stuck or fused together. This happened likely because of a corneal ulcer or some trauma to my eye in the past. I know it might sound a bit concerning, but I want to assure you that I’m still a happy and playful pup despite this challenge. It doesn’t slow me down or affect my ability to enjoy life and bring joy to those around me. Right now it is not causing me any discomfort and no further action was recommended but it is something that my new family will need to keep an eye on.
Now, let me give you the inside scoop on my energy level! So, my energy level? I’d say it’s like a good cup of coffee in the morning—medium. Not too hyper, not too lazy, just the right amount of zoomies to keep things interesting. Now, when it comes to toys, let me tell ya, I’m a connoisseur. Squeaky toys? Yup, love ’em! Chew toys? Absolutely! Give me a toy, and I’ll show you how to have a blast. As for fetch, let’s just say my foster’s more into “fetching your attention” than actually chasing a ball. And water? Oh, don’t get me started! I’m like a mini Michael Phelps, ready to dive into any puddle, hose, or kiddie pool you put in front of me. Who says  dogs can’t enjoy a good splash? Hiking? Oh boy, I have never done it before but that sounds like a dream come true! The great outdoors, fresh air, new smells – it’s like a buffet for my curious nose. I can already picture myself leading the pack, tail wagging with every step up the trail. Leashes, ah, the bane of my doggy existence… for now! Let’s just say I’m a leash-learning work in progress. Picture me trying to moonwalk like MJ while attached to a rope. Yep, it’s a hilarious sight, but we’re working on it. Rome wasn’t built in a day, and neither was a perfect leash strut!
How do I do when meeting new people, you ask? Oh, that’s like a tail-wagging party for me! I’m all about those friendly greetings, the sniffs of curiosity, and the wiggles that say, “Hey, let’s be pals!” Other  dogs? Bring ’em on! Playing with my fellow furry pals is like my favorite game of tag. Chase, wrestle, play bow—I’m all about spreading the doggy joy!  Cats? Hmm, haven’t really had the pleasure of feline company, so I can’t say for sure. But hey, I’m a friendly pup, so I’m sure I’d be cool with them. Cats are just big, fluffy mysteries waiting to be sniffed out, right? Kids? Oh, I’m a fan! Our 14-year-old human pal? They’re like my best buddy. I love their energy, their games, and the endless belly rubs. Kids and pups? It’s a match made in waggy-tail heaven!
———My House Manners———-
Apartment living? Yep, I think I’d rock it! With proper exercise and playtime, I can adapt to any cozy space. Just show me where the toys are, and I’ll make it my wag-tastic domain! Potty trained? Ah, not quite there yet, but we’re working on it. Every accident is just a step closer to mastering the art of bathroom breaks! Chewing on things? Nah, I’m a toy enthusiast! Anything that’s not a toy? Meh, not interested. Why chew on shoes when you have squeaky chickens, am I right? Doggie doors? Ah, still getting the hang of it, but I’m a quick learner! Barking? Nah, I’m more of a quiet observer. I’ll woof a bit to say hello or if I hear something interesting, but I’m not the neighborhood bark-itect, if you catch my drift.
Whether we’re conquering new tricks or just enjoying a cozy nap together, I’m here to bring smiles, laughter, and a whole lot of  puppy love. So let’s leash up, grab those squeaky toys, and embark on the paw-some journey of life together! Woof woof! ??
