As our followers know, we do NOT accept owner surrenders. We strongly believe that a  pet is a lifetime commitment and do not enable folks who won’t keep that commitment.
But sometimes a case comes along where there is a legitimate reason for giving up your pet. Those cases are far and few between. But in Saphira’s case, her owner could no longer care for her because of an unforeseen medical condition and they had recently relocated to an area where they did not
have friends or family to support them.
When one of our dedicated fosters learned of her, they were concerned she would be surrendered to the local shelter which has a high euthanasia rate. So we intervened.
It’s probably a good thing that we did. You can see by the condition of her wooly coat that she’s not had proper care. We were also in for one BIG surprise.
Saphira is 115lbs!!! (and under weight)
If she had brown eyes we would assume she’s a Malamute! But given that she has the blue eye trait she must be Malamute/Husky mix. Saphira is a dominant girl when it comes to other  dogs and can be jealous when they receive affection. She’d do best in a home where there aren’t other  pups and she can be the sole focus of someone’s love OR in a home with other submissive and self sufficient pups.
Saphira is not a fan of crates, but isn’t destructive when left unattended and is house broken. Her favorite past time is laying upside down on the couch and yes, she takes up the whole couch! We are working on getting her coat under control. Anyone wishing to adopt should understand the nature of the wooly double coat. It’s a beast to maintain! Saphira is two and a half years old and is spayed, current on her vaccinations and heartworm negative. She is located in NC but can be transported for an appropriate home within our adoption area.
Anyone wishing to apply for our Malsky can do so on our website. www.huskyrescueteam.org
~~Husky Education And Rescue Team is a foster based rescue. Our dogs are in our foster homes all up and down the east coast. We do not have a facility in which you can visit. We find this a huge benefit because we learn our dogs and are able to educate our adopters on what it’s like to have them live in your home. Part of our process, once pre-approved, is to speak with the foster for the  dog you’re interested in. If you’re still interested in adopting from our rescue the first step is to complete our adoption application online at www.huskyrescueteam.org/apply
