My Story
Dog Name: Roxie
Breed: Mix
Sex: Female
Age: 5 years
Weight: 67 pounds, but working her way down to ideal weight of 50-55 pounds.
Medical Needs: None. (Roxie tested positive for Lyme Disease on her intake bloodwork, and has completed a 28-day course of Doxycycline to treat it.)
Housebroken: Yes
Crate trained: No, she has not been crated since she was a young puppy. However she does very well in a larger kennel when boarding, so I believe she’d do fine in a crate! Prior to surrender, she lived her whole life as a well-loved pet and settles down on her dog bed or in a spare room very well.
Good in the car: Yes, she settles right down and rides well in the back seat.
Good on a leash: Yes, but she knows her strength and will still sometimes decide she wants to pull or go in a different direction. It’s been a work in progress !
Energy level: Medium. Roxie has grown to LOVE exploring and sniffing outside. She would do wonderful in a home where she can get exercise outside and enjoy the sights, sounds, and smells the world has to offer. She is also totally down to have a lazy day here and there!
Need a fenced in yard: No, but she would really enjoy it. She loves to spend time outside on nice days!
Dog Friendly: Yes.
If yes, does your foster need another dog in its adoptive home? No.
Cat Friendly: Unknown.
Kid Friendly: Yes!! She has done wonderful with kids 8+ but has not yet met other children.
If yes, what’s the youngest child you’d recommend they be placed with? She is a calm, sweet, dog, so I wouldn’t anticipate any issues.
Special traits that make your foster special or that we need to know about them?
Roxie is well-loved by her former owner. Having to relinquish Roxie to rescue was very hard for both of them. But Roxie is resilient and she has settled in well in foster care. She has been on a diet to help her shed the extra pounds and has had exercise brought into her daily routine. She is a sweet, wonderful, easy companion to everyone (two-legged and four-legged) whom she’s met since she’s been with me
