My Story

Meet Millie a Golden Retriever we rescued from a puppy mill. Millie is a Sanctuary dog and available under our Foster to Adopt program.
Millie was born Sept 25, 2022. She weighs 50 lbs.. She is a gentle, sweet and loveable soul. Millie is in a foster home. She has gone from being terrified of people to loving everyone at her foster home. She will dance around for treats, and play with other dogs all day in her foster home. However, you will not see the happy side of Millie for a few weeks. She reverts to being afraid and  terrified in new surroundings and with new people. The trusting process will start all over again.  She needs a special home.
She will cower down when someone approaches her.  She will lay in a corner with her head down at first. She will not come to you. She will need to adjust on her own time
She is very treat motivated, although the first few weeks she would not take any treats from us. She was too scared.
She does not walk on a leash, she will lay down. Once she trusts you, she will walk a bit on a leash, however she still has a long way to go. You may have to carry her outside for a while. SHE MUST HAVE A SECURE FENCED IN BACK YARD
She gets along great with other dogs She needs another friendly, submissive, younger, easy going dog in the home to teach her how to be a dog, this is a must
She needs an adult in the family who is home more, no young children under 10 years of age, although she loves all people and kids she is skittish.
She sleeps in a crate in the bedroom at night. She sleeps through the night, without a peep as long as the crate is in the bedroom. If we put the crate in another room, she will bark .
When she first came here she had a open door crate in the family room which was her safe place.
Mille will need to be crated when you leave, she will chew up things and counter surf. This is one of the reasons that she needs a home where the adopter is home during the day. She does not like to be crated.
Millie will take time and patience for her to come around. She needs a special home. Thankfully treats are the way to her heart, but not at first.
She is comfortable in her foster home. She will get into things when you are not watching, she will chew things like pillows, and indoor plants.
She is housetrained , however the foster home does have a pet door so she goes outside as she pleases.
Millie is spayed, up to date on vaccines and is microchipped. She is a sweet, gentle unsocialized girl that came from a bad puppy mill and needs a lot of patience before she will trust you.  We are looking for the right home,  Only apply if you are serious and meet our adoption criteria. You must work out of your home or be retired. She can not be crated for long periods of time. Can you carry a 50lb dog to the back yard if she won’t walk?  You must have a secure fenced in yard, and another confident and happy dog to show Millie how to be a dog. You must live within 50 miles of Grovertown, Indiana. For more information on our Foster to Adopt Program go to this link https://indianasaveadog.com/foster-to-adopt
