My Story
Arf! Arf, everyone! My name is Cinnamon, and I’m a sweet, friendly red brindle 50-pound Australian Kelpie/ German Shepherd mix gal who was born about March 2022. I’m a lover-girl who gets along with adults, teenagers, as well as other dogs. In case you’re not familiar with Australian Kelpies, we’re a lively, intelligent, loyal, hard-working breed that was bred for herding sheep. We have lean, athletic bodies and easy-care double coats.
Prior to being rescued, my life was pretty miserable because I was in an abusive home where I was always left outside in the back yard and severely neglected. IF my “owners” would feed me, it would consist of their throwing food out their back door. I was deprived of all human contact, and not even the kids would play with me. I guess you’d say that I was in survival mode. Fortunately a few neighbors realized what was going on and at least started feeding me through the fence. Are you surprised that then my “owners” dumped me? Thank heavens my rescuer found out and gave me refuge in her home.
I’m just happy to be in a stimulating environment where I’m appreciated for the first time in my life. All I wanted was someone to love me and another dog to play with me, and my wishes are coming true in my foster home. I’m even being introduced to toys, and my favorite is the Mutts Kick Butt Rocketman because it dispenses treats! Boy, howdy! It keeps me in doggie heaven for hours because I can chew on it too! (Watch me in the video!)
Since I’m a shepherd mix, I have some daily exercise needs, and spending time with my hooman jogging or playing Frisbee at the dog park is ideal. Foster Mom thinks I’d perform well in dog sports like agility; plus agility would be another excellent opportunity for me to bond with my hoomans.
Although I was never taught the things a puppy would be taught in a healthy, loving home, fortunately I’m very smart and a quick, eager learner. My foster mom is patiently teaching me all the habits I need to develop to be the pleasing “good girl” that my heart wants me to be, and her loving efforts are paying big dividends. Just understand that I’m a work-in-progress, so plan to measure out a lot of grace to a pooch who wants to please you, and then we’ll be best forever friends.
I’m anticipating a wonderful forever home which I’m confident that Miss Donna will find for me. Despite all that’s happened to me, I’m resilient and still let the light of my endearing personality shine through. I hope you’ll arrange to meet my sweet self today! My heart has so much love to give – all I need is YOU!
