Any Special Medical or Special Needs: Needs one more shot. She is spayed
Temperament with:
? Dogs:She has a great attitude with our other dog. They play and snuggle together. The first 2 days Lighting was at our house. Our dog growled a little to show dominance over food. Lighting could care less. She didn’t engage, but she also didn’t stand down. It was great for both dogs. That being said, I think she would do well with another dog, but it isn’t needed. She loves company, but that can be in human form as well.
? Cats: Unknown but doesn’t show interest in the neighborhood feral cats being fed next door.
? Children list specific ages: Young , Teen etc. Wonderful with our 3 kids aged 4-7. She is gentle with them and allowed them to approach her the first day or so. She was overly aggressive in her play with them.
them.
? Strangers:Wonderful. She engages them with excitement, but listens when I ask her to go to another room.
Training Needs: Being that she’s older, we’re not pressing training. She listens great when we ask her to go outside and to come in. We ask to Lighting to sit before receiving her meals and she has been responding quicker and quicker.
Crate Trained: Yes, some seperation anxiety. She is well behaved and doesn’t need to be created.
Potty Trained : Yes
Activity Preferences:
She loves to be involved. If we are outside. She will follow us and lay on the porch till we move inside. She will hang on the couch with you (or other pets) or the floor of whatever room she is in. Lighting likes to play with other dogs, but by their invitation. She is definitely docile and open to any adventure.
Describe the ideal furever home for your foster:
Anyhome that the/an individual is home more than not. While I think any home would be a great fit for this easy going girl. She loves being a part of and would enjoy company more than solitude. She does well traveling in the car and on the leash. The longest we’ve gone is ¾ a mile, and I don’t think at her age she could trek a big hike. That being said. I think she would love to be the dog glued to your side to work from home or zip around running tasks with your furry buddy. Other dogs or no dogs. Works well with either. Kids or only adults, doesn’t matter, she just wants love from someone.
Cute things your foster does that could be endearing or a personality point that would make people want to meet him/her:
She absolutely loves sitting next to you. If you let her (like my kids do) she’ll even sit on your lap. Make sure you always have a spot for her on the couch or a dog bed nearby!
Share a little bit about your fosters week:
Lighting was not treated kindly before coming into our foster home. Somehow that neglect has not created a standoffish or timid dog, but a “love sponge”. She has spent the last week quickly becoming a part of the family. I feel like her favorite word is, “yes”. Play in the backyard, “yes”. Treats, “yes”, couch time, “yes”. She has quickly adapted to our routine and think she would in any house. While we won’t mind a “foster family”, we feel so lucky with our current dog and feel like Lighting is a special hidden gem that the right family will feel so lucky to have.
She/He is currently located in Chicago’s southwest suburbs and can be seen by appointment once an adoption application is completed and approved by the rescue. We cannot hold our dogs for any reason. Unless the dog or puppy is fully vetted we will only consider applications that are within 1 hour or 40 miles of Lemont, IL. This is due to the required vetting at our partner veterinarians. If the dog or puppy is fully vetted we will allow adoptions out of state or outside of our 1 hour or 40 mile restriction. Please do not apply unless you are ready to meet and welcome a new companion into the home within five days of approval.
ADOPTION FEE: $300 (includes spay, microchip, rabies vaccine, DHPP vaccine, 4DX test (Heartworm, Anaplasmosis, Ehrlichia, Lyme Disease ) and fecal negative, and general wellness which includes dewormer, heartworm prevention and flea/tick prevention)
