Type of a scam Tech Support

I was online and was trying to click on pop-up ad about Apple Pie, then all of a sudden my computer froze and the message that said Microsoft System Security alert Code VIV 1094, alerting me that I should not do anything as it will harm computer. Instead, I should call 855-629-4140.  I did and got connected to a company called Geeks Swap LLC in NV, who offered to fix the Russian hacker attack for $379.99, which I had to agree before they will do anything. They supposedly scanned my computer for 2 hours and installed something that prevents pop-ups. They wanted me to send them the cashier’s check or money order to pay them since they do not accept credit card. I was about to send it, but my bank cautioned that this is potentially a scam.
