Type of a scam Business Email Compromise

They claimed they were from Microsoft and blocked my computer from working,then told me it would be permantly disabled if I did not call them to resolve problem in 5 minutes. IN the end they wanted to sell me coumpter protection by me sending them a personly check picked up by fed ex carrier. I never did. But they did gain access to my coumpter, I don’t know what kind of trouble I’m in for.
