Caller claimed to be Xcel Energy stating my services would be shut off in the next 2 hours if I didn’t correct the issue in billing. He gave me a phone number to call and choose the option for customer service. I called just to see who was on the other end and they had an automated phone system (auto attendant) that sounded convincingly like Xcel with a tree of options. I hung up and called the number for Xcel. I spoke with a real customer care rep who informed me there was no problem on my account and looked up the number they had given me (8884807566) to find out that it was NOT an Xcel phone number. No money was lost and the caller did not directly request money or credit card to help "sell" his scam.
