Type of a scam Fake Invoice/Supplier Bill

Someone claiming to be from Xcel Energy called our company claiming that energy bill was overdue and that if we didn’t remit payment by going to a CVS Pharmacy immediately for a money order that they were going to shut off the electricity in 15 minutes. Asked for $2,000 to take care of bill.

Type of a scam Utility

Individual calling himself "Peter" contacted our business stating that power was to be disconnected today at 3:00 PM. He said he was calling from X-Cel energy. He told me we should have received a disconnect notice and gave me a number to call for further information. I questioned if we would need our account number (knowing we do not have one). He did not have an account number for me to use and said it would be looked up with our address, and he listed our address, they would look it up for us.

We do not have an X-Cel account number as we lease our office space. I called the number he gave me and received a recording mispronouncing X-Cel. I hung up and contacted X-Cel energy. They confirmed that we do not have an account and they do not service our area. This was a scam. “Peter” called from (866)978-6807 and gave me the number of (800)878-5401 extension #2 to call back.
