Type of a scam Business Email Compromise

On job posting site I was emailed by the job agency I applied to. They sent me a email stating the job had closed but to email tbis account for openings. I received an email by this account and was offered "employment" with his company as a personal assistant. No interview was given and I was then being asked to cash suspicious checks that’s were mailed to my house. I did not cash any checks and discontinued any further communication.
