Type of a scam Tech Support

Received a call (marked by my phone company as "Scam Likely") from a woman (possibly Indian) who claimed to work for the "Technical Department" of "World Co." She said that viruses had been detected on my computer and attempted to get me to:

-locate and remove system files on my hard drive

-locate and alter admin settings on my computer

-provide remote access to my computer

-provide personal information

-repeatedly prompt me to say "yes" or "okay" while on the line

The caller claimed to know my computer’s model and serial number, so I asked her to provide confirmation. When I told her that her information was incorrect, she started to get noticeably agitated.

When I then requested that the caller explain precisely what procedure she was trying to have me complete on my computer (and why), she refused to answer, and her tone became increasingly hostile. I told her I would need to "get someone from the IT Department to help with this, because it is too technical for me," and she hung up on me.
