Found a Tesla on Autotrader for $28,00 and was immediately suspicious. The “sellers” response is almost identical to others mentioned here. Here’s a blurb:

“My situation is a little bit difficult because of my job, but I do my best to make this deal happen. I’m working for Red Cross and now we are traveling all around the country to help people during the Covid-19 pandemic. I’m from Detroit, MI and before leaving I took the car with all the documents to a local shipping company, WMotors Freight. My presence won’t be necessary because their policy is that for 5 days you can test the car while they act as an escrow party and hold your money while you try it out. The delivery fee is included in the price, don’t worry. If on the 5th day you decide against keeping the car, though I seriously doubt it, you can return it and get refunded in full within 24 hours and I will be responsible to bring it back to their warehouse. What I recommend is that we have them to issue an invoice, so you can see for yourself how it works and be able to contact them personally. Let’s have WMotors Freight get in touch with you so you can understand better. If interested please include in your next email your contact info for WMotors Freight: full name, shipping address and phone number, so we can move forward with this transaction.”

Same results for a 2008 Airstream 23FB International Trailer. She used the name Michele Ceman and stated that she is an American Airlines Flight Attendant. I work for AA and that name does not exist at AA. I called W Motors Freight as well. Here was the email from the “seller”:

I’m a flight attendant for American Airlines and because I’m away most of the time I will not be able to deal in person. I’m from Detroit, MI and before leaving I took the camper with all the documents to a local shipping company. My presence won’t be necessary because their policy is that for 5 days you can test the camper while they act as an escrow party and hold your money while you try it out. The delivery fee is included in the price, don’t worry. But if on the 5th day you decide against it, though I seriously doubt it, you can return it and get refunded within 24 hours. I found this ad on Autotrader to buy a car <span title="(https://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-sale/vehicledetails.xhtml?listingId=549023444&zip=27560&referrer=%2Fcars-for-sale%2Fsearchresults.xhtml%3Fzip%3D27560%26sortBy%3Drelevance%26maxPrice%3D30000%26incremental%3Dall%26firstRecord%3D0%26marketExtension%3Dinclude%26modelCodeList%3DTESMODS%26makeCodeList%3DTESLA%26searchRadius%3D200%26isNewSearch%3Dtrue&numRecords=25&maxPrice=30000&firstRecord=0&modelCodeList=TESMODS&makeCodeList=TESLA&searchRadius=200&clickType=spotlight)

I requested to be contacted and someone emailed me back telling me that the car is with this company called WMotors Freight and that I pay the $28,000 to this company and they hold it in escrow. Then they ship the car to me. I get 5 days to test drive it and if I like it they send the money to the car owner.

I have the emails and documents that WMotors Freight sent me that I can forward to you if need be.

The reason I think it is a scam is the owner of the vehicle refuses to call me for me to ask questions and she barely answers my emails and all she is saying is to pay the money to get the car. Then I tried researching the company and cannot find any info about it at all and they do not return my emails or phone calls. Once I reached someone on the phone and it was some foreign who did not know good English and was not professional at all. Also I called local businesses around the address given on the website and those businesses did not know who this was either.
